The Ember’s Curse

It began in the heart of the ancient Dragon’s Spine, where the mountains stretched to kiss the very heavens, and where the dragons had once roamed free, as majestic and terrifying as the storms that tore through the land. These creatures, both feared and revered, had ruled their domain for centuries, their fiery breath scorching the sky with each beat of their wings.

But the dragons were not the only ancient power that called the Spine home. Hidden in the shadows of its peaks, the Witches of the Flame—the oldest and most secretive of all covens—had lived in isolation, guarding a secret that no mortal or immortal should ever know.

Legend tells that it was a night drenched in blood-red moonlight when the great betrayal occurred. A witch named Seraphine, once beloved by the Flame Coven for her fiery magic and quick wit, had fallen in love. Not with another witch, not with a mortal, but with a dragon—a beast of flame and scale named Ignis, ruler of the dragons. It was forbidden—an oath bound by ancient magic had made such a union impossible. The world of witches and dragons were never to intertwine. Yet, Seraphine’s heart would not be swayed.

She met Ignis under the cover of darkness, when the moon hung low and heavy, casting long shadows that twisted like serpents across the land. Their love burned as fiercely as the flames that Ignis breathed, but such a powerful bond could not remain hidden for long.

The Flame Coven, furious at Seraphine’s betrayal, demanded she break her union with the dragon. But she refused. In her rebellion, she invoked a forbidden spell, one that she had discovered in the darkest corners of the Coven’s ancient grimoire. The spell was meant to bind her heart to Ignis’s forever. But as magic surged through her veins, twisting and growing uncontrollably, the earth trembled beneath their feet.

The skies cracked open, and the very fabric of 4EverMore began to shudder. The spell, meant to unite them, had torn the balance asunder. The dragons, now aware of the witches' betrayal, descended upon the Flame Coven in a furious rage, their fiery breath scorching everything in its path. Witches screamed, their magic burning out of control, their bodies consumed by the flames. But the dragon, Ignis, stopped. His mighty wings spread wide, blocking the others with his unrelenting strength.

Seraphine had known the danger, but she did not anticipate what would happen next. The spell, once unleashed, could not be controlled. As the dragons retreated, with Ignis at the forefront, he turned to face her one last time. His voice rumbled in the night like thunder, a deep sorrow in his tone. "You’ve destroyed the very magic that binds us. You have cursed us both."

And just like that, Seraphine, with her heart still bound to the dragon, was cursed. The bond between them had become a source of devastation, consuming both the dragon and the witch. She was cast out of the coven, her magic sealed away, and her love for Ignis a burden she could never escape. The land around them burned, the once lush forests of the Dragon’s Spine charred and barren, the skies forever stained with the residue of their fall from grace.

Seraphine’s curse became a legend, whispered by the flames of a dying fire. She wandered the world, searching for a way to break the bond, a way to free herself from the curse that had doomed them both. But Ignis was never far, his wings shadowing the skies, his sorrowful gaze ever haunting her.

And thus, the tale of the witches and dragons became one of warning—a tale passed down through the ages. For love, when driven by power and defiance, can burn far too hot, and sometimes, the ashes left behind are all that remain of what once was.
