The Immortal Gazette: Lestat – The Vampire Aristocrat

The Immortal Gazette: Lestat – The Vampire Aristocrat

The fire crackled softly in the hearth, its light flickering across the faces gathered around the room. Alice and Loki sat a little closer this time, an unusual quiet between them, their typical teasing energy replaced by something else—an eerie calm, perhaps spurred by the tale that was about to unfold. Rumplestiltskin, ever the purveyor of intriguing stories, paced around with his usual flair, a glint of mischief in his eyes.

"Tonight," he began, with a flourish, "we dive into the tale of a creature who would be called a prince among the undead. A creature who not only conquered the world of the living, but also rewrote the rules of what it means to be immortal. The infamous, the charismatic, the terrifying—Lestat de Lioncourt."

Loki grinned, clearly entertained by the mention of someone so formidable. "A vampire? Now, this, I can get behind."

Alice rolled her eyes, her usual playful smirk appearing. "Of course, you would. Nothing like a little bloodsucker to keep things interesting."

Rumplestiltskin, his tone now grave with the weight of the story, began. "Lestat was born into nobility in 18th-century France, a land brimming with decadence, luxury, and untold violence. His tale begins as many tragic ones do—trapped within the chains of his family’s expectations. He was a man of privilege, yes, but also a man of great despair, for the life he led was not one he had chosen. He was to be a soldier, a man who followed orders, who wore the armor of his class without question. But Lestat’s heart craved something more—something darker, more free."

Loki sat forward, intrigued. "Let me guess, he couldn’t handle the confines of his so-called ‘aristocratic’ life and just had to break out. That’s always how these stories go."

Alice nodded sagely. "Yep, the good ol’ ‘I want more from life’ drama. So what happens next, Rumple? Does he rebel and go rogue?"

"Not exactly," Rumplestiltskin continued, his voice lowering to an almost sinister whisper. "Lestat’s rebellion came in the form of a curse, one that would alter the course of his destiny forever. You see, he met a vampire by the name of Magnus, who had already suffered the consequences of immortality. Magnus, seeing Lestat’s restless soul, offered him a chance—the gift of eternal life. But there was a price. Magnus bit him, and in that moment, Lestat became something else entirely."

Alice raised an eyebrow. "A bit dramatic, don’t you think? A random vampire just decides, ‘Oh, you look like you need a little immortality.’ Does he not even get a say in it?"

Rumplestiltskin smirked. "Oh, he had no say, Alice. That’s the beauty of it. Lestat was thrust into the world of the undead, and with it came a thirst for blood, an insatiable hunger that would soon define his existence. His transformation was violent and chaotic—he slaughtered his own family, consumed by the bloodlust, forever severing his ties to his former life."

Loki grinned, his usual playful malice appearing. "Oof. That’s gotta be a hard one to come to terms with. Murdering your own family for a taste of immortality. Not exactly a trade I’d make."

"Yet Lestat embraced it," Rumplestiltskin continued. "He reveled in the power and freedom that came with his new form. He was immortal, invincible, and above all, a being of absolute will. His transformation wasn’t just physical—it was psychological, emotional. The very essence of Lestat was redefined by his new nature."

Alice, her smirk returning, leaned forward. "I’m guessing this is where he becomes the infamous Lestat we all know and love, right? The one who’s always in the middle of every tragedy, every drama, and every scandal?"

Rumplestiltskin chuckled darkly. "Oh, indeed. Lestat would go on to become one of the most notorious vampires in the world. His story unfolds over centuries, filled with battles for power, confrontations with other immortals, and an ongoing struggle with his own identity. He created a family of vampires—his own coven, if you will—by turning those he encountered into creatures like himself, including the tragic and beautiful Claudia, a five-year-old girl he transformed into a vampire, forever trapping her in a child’s body."

Loki’s grin faded as the darker side of Lestat’s choices was revealed. "Wait—so he turned a child into a vampire? That’s… messed up."

Rumplestiltskin nodded grimly. "Indeed. Claudia’s transformation became one of the greatest tragedies in Lestat’s life. A child’s mind, trapped in an immortal body, forced to experience the agony of living without ever growing. She would become consumed with rage and hatred toward Lestat, blaming him for her eternal childhood."

Alice laughed dryly. "Well, that’s what happens when you play god. But I’m guessing it doesn’t end with a happy family reunion, does it?"

"Not in the slightest," Rumplestiltskin replied, his voice tinged with the sorrow of Lestat’s fate. "Claudia’s resentment led to betrayal. She plotted against Lestat, and, with the help of the vampire Armand, tried to destroy him. Lestat, forever the tragic hero, was caught in a whirlwind of love, loss, and endless conflict. But even in his turmoil, he remained relentless—his will never faltering. He was a creature of the night, with no equal."

Loki crossed his arms, thinking over the tale. "So, a guy who murders his family, turns a little girl into an immortal monster, and has constant issues with his own kind? Sounds like he’s a real charmer."

Rumplestiltskin’s grin spread wide. "Oh, but it gets better, Loki. Lestat’s path wasn’t just defined by conflict—it was defined by desire—a hunger for meaning, for love, and for the truth of his existence. His eternal journey led him to confront his own sense of self-worth. He even sought redemption, trying to undo the wrongs he had committed, but it was never enough. He could never escape the horrors of his past, the consequences of his choices."

Alice, with a wicked gleam in her eye, chimed in. "And I bet his story ends with him realizing that immortality isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Typical ‘tale of the tragic vampire’ scenario."

"Ah, but not quite," Rumplestiltskin corrected. "Lestat would go on to become the king of his kind, a ruler who finally accepted his place in the world. He became the symbol of the eternal struggle between immortality and humanity, power and regret. And in his final act, he reached a point where he embraced his own divine purpose, transcending his vampire nature and becoming something greater—something more divine than any mortal could ever comprehend."

Loki’s grin returned, this time full of admiration. "Now that sounds interesting. He became more than just a vampire? Well, it looks like Lestat had the last laugh after all."

Alice snorted. "Yeah, he got to have divine power while being the world’s most brooding, self-loathing, dramatic immortal. That’s one way to do it, I suppose."

Rumplestiltskin stood straighter, finishing the tale with a final flourish. "Indeed, he did. And that, my dear friends, is the story of Lestat de Lioncourt—the vampire who sought more than immortality, who craved meaning and truth, even in the darkness of the night. A tale of power, passion, and the eternal struggle to find one’s place in a world that will never allow you to truly rest."

Loki stretched and leaned back, his voice amused. "Not a bad story, Rumple. Not bad at all."

Alice, with a grin that hinted at her usual mischief, added, "Well, I guess Lestat really took the whole ‘living forever’ thing to the next level. But hey, at least he didn’t bore anyone while doing it, right?"

And with that, the story of Lestat, the vampire aristocrat, lingered in the air like the final note of a haunting melody, the fire crackling quietly in the background.

Rumplestiltskin leaned back with a satisfied smirk as the tale of Lestat finished swirling in the air. The fire crackled again, adding a bit of warmth to the otherwise cool night. But just as the last words of the vampire prince hung in the air, Alice’s eyes narrowed playfully as she glanced at Loki and then at Rumplestiltskin.

“Wait a second,” she said, a wicked grin creeping onto her face. “If I remember correctly, Tom Cruise played Lestat in that movie. Interview with the Vampire.

Loki arched an eyebrow, clearly intrigued by where this was going. “So, you’re a fan of Cruise, then?”

Alice held up her hands, mock-seriously. “Listen, I’m not saying I’m a fan, but I’m not going to criticize him in any way, shape, or form. He did a damn fine job as Lestat. Don’t even start with me.”

Rumplestiltskin chuckled darkly. “Criticize Tom Cruise? Who’s ever been brave enough to do that?”

Alice burst into laughter, eyes twinkling with a mischievous light. “Oh, but wait—now that I’m thinking about it... I just remembered something hilarious.”

She leaned forward, clearly about to spill something juicy. "Mr. Cruise, he also played that weird chubby bald guy where he was kinda crazy and did this hilarious dance. You know, the one from Tropic Thunder! I had no idea it was him!! I didn’t even recognize him until way later when someone said it was him! But oh my gods, the way he was dancing and acting? Pure gold. Funny as hell.”

Loki’s grin spread, though his eyes flickered with mild confusion. “I’m trying to picture that..."

Alice cackled, her laugh echoing through the room. “Oh, Loki, it was priceless. Honestly, the whole thing was so ridiculous, but he nailed it.”

Loki grunted, crossing his arms. "Sounds... entertaining."

“Entertaining? Loki, it was hilarious,” Alice shot back. “I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard!”

Her mind kept spinning with her recollections. “But wait, I also remember this other movie he did. Collateral, I think? And not for nothing, but Tom looked handsome as hell in that one. He was all grizzled, gray hair, and goatee, just—swoon, but, like, psycho version of swoon. He was dangerous but oh-so-charming. I kept thinking ‘this is the bad guy I’d like to be around.’”

Alice raised an eyebrow, her expression turning smug. “You know, I watched the Minority Report like a billion times. I even dreamed about it. Crazy stuff.”

Loki shifted uncomfortably in his seat, the veins of jealousy flashing momentarily in his eyes. “You dreamed about him, huh?” he muttered under his breath, his arms crossing tighter.

Rumplestiltskin, ever the observant one, noticed the shift in Loki’s mood immediately. He leaned in, his smile too wide for comfort. "Oh, Loki, are we feeling a little jealous?" His voice was taunting but playful, almost like a cat watching a mouse squirm.

Loki shot him a look, his posture stiffening as he glared at the smirking Rumple. “I’m not jealous,” he grumbled, though the tension in his voice said otherwise.

Alice, sensing the sudden shift in energy, rolled her eyes dramatically. “Oh, please. There’s no need for all this jealousy, Loki. You’re a handsome god. Seriously, no one’s topping that.”

Loki, clearly flattered but still slightly on edge, gave a smug grin. “Exactly, Alice. I am,” he said, his usual arrogance returning.

Rumplestiltskin raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by the playful exchange. “Is that so? Well, if you say so, Loki, I’m sure you’re just as... handsome as a Greek god or whatever you call yourself these days."

Loki glared at Rumple, clearly itching for a little verbal sparring. "And don’t you forget it, Rumple."

Alice chuckled, a gleam of satisfaction in her eyes as she leaned back, watching the two immortals bicker like children. "Alright, alright," she said, her voice full of mischief. "I get it. You both think you’re the most handsome. I’m not starting this again."

Rumplestiltskin leaned back, wiping his hands together in mock satisfaction. “As much as I enjoy your banter, I think we’ve all learned something tonight.”

Loki nodded, a wry smile on his face. “What’s that?”

“That you’re both insufferable,” Rumple said with a sly grin, then laughed, the sound echoing through the room.

Alice raised her glass, smiling at Loki and Rumple. “You know, this is why I keep you two around. A bit of drama keeps things entertaining."

Loki finally let out a laugh, relaxing. "That’s one way to end it."

Rumplestiltskin clapped his hands together. “Agreed! Now, if you two are done squabbling, shall we get back to more important matters? Like… more movies?”

Alice’s eyes lit up, her enthusiasm returning. “Oh, yes! Let’s see what else you’ve got in mind, Rumple! I’m sure we can find some other characters that’ll make Loki jealous.”

The night stretched on, full of stories and laughter, as the trio settled back into their usual dynamic—teasing, bickering, and, as always, entertaining.
